8) Quran Study: Surah 65, 66 (4/7/89)

Study From Azhar 8, Sura 65 & Sura 66 By Lori, Encourage Children To Do Salat. Hamid Argues 04.

Speaker 2 (0:00) God has prepared for them a severe retribution. (0:03) Therefore, ye shall reverence God, O you who possess intelligence and belief. (0:08) God has sent to you a reminder, not just there to take up space. (0:21) And here the past tense is used because we know that the decision was made before we ever came into this dimension. (0:31) So we possess, those of us who possess intelligence, even though we blew it because we wavered, we didn't take an absolute stand for God. (0:40) Still, we didn't do what the gems did and just totally disbelieve. (0:45) We just showed some intelligence. (0:47) And God sends us reminders. (0:53) He sends us the messages. (0:55) He sends us the scriptures. (0:56) And the messengers to recite the scriptures and to clarify things as reminders because just because we made that initial decision doesn't guarantee that we're not going to make mistakes and go out of God's kingdom. (1:11) So we have to be constantly reminded about God's laws. (1:17) We have to reward each other to be righteous. (1:20) We have to remind each other to do certain things, to give charity. (1:26) We have to remind each other and ourselves because it's really easy to forget in your day-to-day life when you're out in the environment where people just believe, forget. Speaker 5 (2:05) Yes. Speaker 1 (2:10) It says provide. (2:11) You pay because it's your responsibility. (2:21) Nursing mother, because the divorced wife may want to refuse to nurse the children. (2:28) Say, I'm not going to do anything anymore. (2:31) You take care of the baby. (2:33) Then you can hire a nursing mother. (2:35) So you have to think of the circumstances of divorce. (2:40) They're really straightforward instructions. (2:51) Because you're telling her, you cannot get married. (2:53) You're telling her, since you're carrying my baby, you cannot get married. (2:57) When you say that, then you have to put your money where your mouth is. (3:05) When you say that, you have to provide for them. (3:15) She may be doing a favor because maybe she can't stand the circumstances or you or the house. (3:21) She may go and strive. (3:24) All right. (3:29) We're coming to, what did you finish, 11? (3:32) What did you finish the whole surah? (3:33) I have a couple of comments. (3:35) This is surah 65. Speaker 2 (4:27) He doesn't hold it accountable to make the right decisions. (4:41) When we do it, then we're guaranteed forever because they're from God. (5:26) 12, God created seven universes. (5:35) Know that God is omnipotent. Speaker 1 (5:47) That's okay. Speaker 2 (5:47) Go ahead. (5:48) It says, although God created six other planets, he evolved on this life period. Speaker 1 (6:42) Okay, the comments that I wish to make on surah 65, verse 8, 9, 10, 11, 12. (6:51) Okay, number 8 is rebelling against God's laws and commandments. (6:56) Messengers come to remind us of these laws. (6:59) Like the mosque belongs to God. (7:01) They do not mention any other name besides God. (7:06) This is a law. (7:07) And when they rebel, it's a sign that retribution is coming to them fast. (7:14) This is what verse 8 is saying. (7:17) Many a community rebelled against God's law and against his messengers. (7:20) Consequently, we held them strictly responsible or accountable and afflicted them with a terrible retribution. (7:28) So, it's coming to all those who are not following God's law. (7:33) And number 10, God has prepared severe retribution. (7:39) Therefore, you shall observe righteousness. (7:41) All you who possess intelligence and believe, God has sent his message to you. (7:48) Now, number 11 is really the one that I want to emphasize here because it's written, I don't know if I put it in past tense here, 11. (7:55) Past tense, believe. (8:00) Okay, here I don't have it in past. (8:02) It is in the past tense that the messenger leads those who believed and led the righteous life out of darkness into the light. (8:13) So, these are people who believe and work righteousness, but they're still in the darkness. (8:20) The messenger cannot do anything to those who don't believe. (8:23) But he helps those who did believe and did lead the righteous life out of darkness into the light. (8:30) It's a very important concept. (8:36) Anyone who believes in God and works righteousness, God will admit him into gardens of flowing streams. (8:41) This fits with verse about 11 in surah 10 that says that God guides those who believe because of their belief. (8:49) So, when we make a decision to believe in God, then God will create circumstances and will help us to lead us out of darkness into the light. (8:58) And this follows believing and leading a righteous life. (9:04) Number 12 is very important in this age of evolution, creation debates. (9:11) Evolution is a divinely guided process. (9:13) Evolution is a fact. (9:16) It is a scientific fact and it is a Quranic fact. (9:19) I'm going to have an appendix on it. (9:21) When you read the appendix, you'll see that evolution is perfectly all right. (9:24) But it is a divinely guided process. (9:30) The fly has 4,000 lenses in each eye. (9:33) 4,000. (9:34) It did not evolve into 10,000. (9:36) It did not evolve into x-ray vision. (9:39) For millions of years, it has 4,000 lenses in each eye. (9:46) But there are varieties of flies. (9:49) Within the same species, there is evolution. (9:52) Within the same species. (9:54) We got the navel orange out of the regular oranges. (9:58) All of a sudden, we have this wonderful orange without any seeds. (10:03) It tastes good. (10:04) But it came from another orange tree, not from an apple tree. (10:08) So, it's from the same species. (10:10) There is evolution within the species. (10:12) And every species was created independently. (10:14) But the point that I want to emphasize here, that you need to remember, that God created 7 earths, identical to this earth. (10:23) And the statistical laws bear this out. (10:28) But there is no life on them. (10:30) Because on the day of judgment, which is the most important day, that's the eternal day, when all the people past, present, and future will be there, we will all be there, and we will all witness that there were 6 other earths like this one, but no life on any of them. (10:48) Because what the evolutionists, the atheist evolutionists say, because we are believing evolutionists, they are atheist evolutionists. (10:59) The atheist evolutionists say that life evolved out of nothing on this earth. (11:04) Because of the circumstances, because of the amino acids, the lightning, the ethylene, and all the other nitrogen and stuff. (11:18) Big Bang theory is confirmed in the Quran. (11:21) The evolution, Darwin's theory, that life evolved on this earth, and this is how our eyes came into being, that this eye was a depression in a photosensitive cell, a depression in the skin that kept evolving until it... (11:40) I wonder why we have the eyes here and not in our hands, for example. (11:46) So this is the purpose of creating 6 other earths, identical to this one. (11:53) Pardon? (11:58) Do you have eyes in your feet, Leila? Speaker 6 (12:00) I think so, I think I can breathe. Speaker 1 (12:04) Well, that's a step in evolution, but still within the species. Speaker 5 (12:09) You're still a human being. Speaker 1 (12:15) Any questions on solar 65? (12:22) Oh yes, this is... (12:25) where is Pupac? (12:26) Pupac, how come you're so quiet? (12:30) Pupac discovered the mistake in the new translation on this page 559. (12:40) And of course you know the rule, God doesn't make mistakes. (12:43) If there's any mistake, it's our mistake. (12:46) To be specific, it's my mistake. (12:48) I forgot to put one word, God, here. (12:53) The count at the bottom of the page is all right, it's right. (12:56) As you know, at the bottom of the page I have the count of the word God on the left side, and the total after this page on this side. (13:03) So the reader can participate in the mathematical code of the Quran and realize this is God speaking to him or her. (13:10) So I forgot, there's one statement, I forget what it is now. (13:24) Hm? (13:26) Number 8? (13:27) Meaning a community rebelled against the commands? (13:33) Okay, yeah, so that's it, it's in verse 8, I believe. (13:35) But anyway, we will fix it. (13:38) These are unedited pages. (13:40) Lisa hasn't got to that point yet, right? Speaker 5 (13:42) Lisa and Emily? Speaker 1 (13:44) Oh, Emily marked it. (13:48) So we're still working with unedited pages. (13:52) But the count is perfect, and we just made a typing error. (13:55) Slim. (14:55) But you said it is rational, it is common sense. (14:59) There's a rich man and a poor man. (15:00) When there's divorce, there's compensation. (15:02) You must compensate the wife, the divorced wife. (15:06) And you must provide for her for at least one year. (15:09) This is in surah 4. (15:15) There's a husband who's a millionaire and a husband who's hand to mouth. (15:20) So how will they provide the bride? (15:27) So the verse is saying. (15:29) It's strictly between you and God, really. (15:33) You don't have to apply any of these laws, but you bear the responsibility, see? (15:43) It's strictly between you and God. (15:47) It's like everything else, like praying or fasting or drinking or gambling. (15:53) It's strictly between you and God. (15:55) God is telling you these laws. (15:56) If you want to be happy, follow them. (15:58) If you want to be miserable, don't follow them. (16:02) So if you are rich and you divorce your wife, you must provide according to your wealth. (16:09) If you are poor, then God is merciful. Speaker 3 (16:11) He's telling you you can only provide as much as you can. Speaker 1 (16:20) It has to be fair. (16:29) Well, in surah 4, there is arbitration. (16:32) Surah 4, not verse 4. (16:34) Surah 4. (16:35) Yeah. (16:36) Surah 4, there is arbitration. (16:38) There are provisions for everything. (16:39) There are details. (16:41) Surah 4 is the second longest surah in the Quran. (16:44) And it has a lot more details. (16:49) See, these are basic rules. (16:53) And just like you said, we really use our rationale, our common sense. (16:56) We're doing all right. (16:58) Use your rationale. (17:06) There's no contradiction. (17:09) The spiritual and rationale must go together. (17:12) But we have a tendency to make things difficult for ourselves. (17:16) The Quran says that. (17:17) The Quran says, if we listen to you, you'll make things more miserable and difficult for yourselves. (17:26) God said, the rich compensate according to his wealth, and the poor compensate according to his abilities. (17:35) It's merciful that he didn't say you have to give this much or this much. (18:04) Western laws. (18:07) Did you see anything? (18:16) The more the human being is educated, the more he comes closer to the Quran. (18:23) The more knowledge they acquire. (18:26) I mean, they're just about to prohibit alcohol, for example. (18:29) I mean, here's a drunk captain who polluted Alaska because of alcohol. (18:35) The whole country knows the evils of alcohol. (18:38) So when they look at the Quran, they say, alcohol is prohibited. (18:42) It matches the common sense. (18:44) It matches the knowledge. (18:49) I mean, this man had a 10-mile wide channel. (18:53) They said a child can maneuver this super tanker through those 10 miles. (18:59) But he's not even a child. (19:01) I mean, he's passed out. Speaker 5 (19:08) I bet you the crew was drunk also. Speaker 1 (19:15) I think it takes a clever captain to hit those rocks. Speaker 5 (19:19) No, they wouldn't do that. (19:26) The guy was drunk. Speaker 1 (19:28) So what I'm saying is that the more knowledge the human being acquires, the closer they get to God's laws. (19:33) On their own. Speaker 3 (19:34) Well, remember that believers' affairs are decided by consultation. Speaker 1 (20:29) We'll talk about believers. (20:31) The believers, they will be fair, and they will consult, and they will maintain. (20:37) Again in surah 4, like Lori mentioned, God emphasizes the amicable relations. (20:43) So a husband and wife didn't get along together and decided to part. (20:47) They don't have to be enemies. (20:48) In fact, God says, do not, you must maintain the amicable relations among you. (20:54) So there will be mutual consultation and mutual contentment. (21:15) I mean, you're hung up on the time of applicability of the Quran. (21:18) The Quran is applicable through any time, to the end of the world. Speaker 3 (21:22) Not nowadays. Speaker 1 (21:34) Actually, we do need Islamic judges. (21:37) I didn't say that. (21:39) Because the general public will not be as familiar with the Quran as Islamic judges are needed. (21:49) I hit somebody's car, so how much do I compensate that person? (21:54) Then we both go to the Islamic judge, and the person whose car I hit, he will say, this cost me $800 to fix, and I lost eight hours of work, and this and this. (22:04) Then the judge will calculate that and will tell me to compensate the person. (22:13) You'll do that too, but then if there is, you know, remember the judge is needed when there is dispute. (22:19) The judge is needed when there is dispute. (22:21) If the person knows what he's doing, you don't need a judge. (22:25) Maximum freedom is guaranteed in the Quran also. (22:29) Let's go to 66 and Laurie. (22:31) Anybody saying something? Speaker 2 (22:32) He is Allah, and he is your oath. (22:57) God is your Lord, and he is also the angels who are better than you. (23:51) Guarding it, or do whatever they are commanded. (24:25) The messenger is given the responsibility to deliver in accordance with God's laws, and the messenger is also a human being, and it's subject to the same task that everybody else is subject to. (24:52) And God made it this way. (25:04) So it doesn't make any sense. (25:11) Clarify. (25:37) But that was God's will. (25:45) We have to believe, not to scandalize him, but God sent out those who will not listen to him. (27:01) I remember one time in one of our lectures about what God is telling us to do. (27:36) And it's a lesson for all of us. (27:42) I mean, we're not supposed to gossip. (27:45) We're not supposed to know anything. (28:14) God is saying that God is his ally. (28:17) And so our neighbors are saying God's law, but also saying to us that our parents have to make sure their children do the same. (29:32) We all have the same needs. (29:36) And we're told here that we get to the day of judgment. (29:42) There are angels who never disobey God. (29:45) And every commandment they're just being refused to help. (30:34) The steps to do what we fight it for. (31:20) Well, obviously, you can only do so much. (31:24) You can tell them to do it. (31:26) You can set the example. (31:28) You can make sure they do it up to a certain point. (31:34) But, you know, if you want your children to get up and pray the morning prayer, not allow them to have their breakfast or something until they do their morning prayer. Speaker 1 (32:00) Do you have the translation, this translation with you? (32:04) That's the one you have there? (32:09) Open page 218. (32:10) That's the answer to your question. (32:12) The old one. (32:13) 218. (32:14) Page 218. (32:16) Verse 132. (32:17) It's very important, actually. (32:18) This is Hamid's question. (32:22) It's very important. (32:22) Remember it and do it. (32:25) What do you do with your children? (32:28) Do you want to read it for us, Hamid? (32:31) Read verse 132. (32:55) Exhaust them to pray and persist in doing so. (32:59) No, because you're doing God's commandment. (33:01) God controls your heart and their hearts, and everything will go just wonderful. (33:06) But you just have to exhort them. (33:08) You have to keep telling them, doing the prayers. (33:20) If I don't carry out God's commandment, and I wait until 2 in the afternoon, ask them, but there were no problems. (33:33) This is one of them. (33:52) They could have said, no, we're not going to do it. (33:54) But they didn't. (33:55) They just didn't come up. (34:00) Like I said, God controls the whole situation. (34:02) You just do your part, and God will do the rest. (34:08) Done. (34:10) You don't have to. Speaker 3 (34:34) I didn't say that. (34:35) Go ahead. Speaker 1 (34:46) Okay, your question is, what do I do with my children, right? (34:49) The answer is right there in verse 132. (34:51) It says, you exhort them to pray and persist in doing so. (34:58) What else are you going to do? (35:06) Why are you being negative? (35:07) Are you assuming that they will say no, right? Speaker 3 (35:16) Do your part. Speaker 1 (35:28) Because this has been my... Speaker 3 (35:34) Yes. Speaker 1 (35:39) But they never said no. Speaker 3 (35:42) You have to keep saying... Speaker 1 (35:43) It just never came up that they said, no, we're not going to pray. (35:53) Those circumstances will not happen if you carry out God's commandment. (35:56) Brothers and sisters, we are living experience, okay? (35:59) It is... (36:00) We speak from experience. (36:02) God provided. (36:03) Not just my experience. (36:04) All of our experiences. (36:06) I raised two kids, right? (36:07) One of them is right there. (36:08) They're all grown up now. (36:09) But throughout their life, I carried out this commandment. (36:13) I told them to pray. (36:17) Never, never once did they say, no, we're not praying. (36:22) So what I'm saying is, you just do the commandment that God gave you, and everything goes fine. (36:29) However, if I was lax in doing this commandment, if I'm not persisting in doing it, they will go without prayer. (36:38) So I will ask them, I'll tell them to pray, and they wait three or four days. (36:42) And if I don't say pray, I will notice that they passed up the time for prayer. Speaker 3 (37:06) You're entitled to do that. Speaker 1 (37:12) You're talking about you or the children? (37:17) Me? (37:25) But I wasn't right the whole time. (37:27) I was an idol worshiper for a long time. (37:30) But I never doubted God. (37:31) However, anybody is entitled to doubt God or question God or be an atheist. (37:36) So am I. (37:37) But it just happened that I didn't. (37:42) Okay? (37:42) So let's take a time when you doubt God. (37:45) You say God doesn't exist. (37:48) Right. (37:49) Nor are you going to carry this commandment. (37:51) You will not do this commandment. (37:53) Your life will be a mess. Speaker 3 (37:57) Oh yes, necessarily. Speaker 7 (37:59) It's in the same surah. Speaker 1 (38:22) See there is a law, let me give you the Quranic law. (38:25) God says, you follow my laws, you're going to have a happy life. (38:29) You disregard my message, you're going to have a miserable life. (38:34) So there is no way around it. Speaker 3 (38:37) Right. (38:39) I never doubted God, no. Speaker 1 (39:07) Hamid, I don't like the fact that you ask a question and then we go into other things. (39:10) The question was, what do I do with the children? (39:14) Right? (39:15) I gave you the answer from the Quran. (39:18) Quran is, you exhort them to follow the Quran and persist in doing so. (39:23) This is your part. (39:25) If we're going to go into other philosophical questions, until the occasion comes up. Speaker 6 (39:31) Just for the sake of the people. (39:32) Just for the sake of the other people. Speaker 1 (39:37) Yeah, Susan won't stop. Speaker 8 (40:27) Yay. Speaker 1 (40:29) If you watch our children, see here in the mosque, you see them eagerly and joyfully praying. (40:54) See, it is your duty to do this commandment. (41:05) But it is your responsibility and your job to point out to them why they should pray. (41:10) Why is it necessary? (41:12) You see, it is your obligation. (41:14) You have duties towards your children. (41:18) You can't just come out of nowhere and say, get up and pray. (41:22) They're going to tell you why. (41:24) You see, I mean, it's a whole life's story. Speaker 4 (41:47) Actually, if you punish them, they'll hate it. Speaker 1 (42:34) You don't want them to hate religion and prayer and all that. (42:38) See, all you need to do is carry out, you do your part. (42:46) And this is at the beginning of the Quran, God says, you do your part. (42:52) Shall we go? (42:55) What? (42:55) To say the prayer? (43:03) Whatever you need to do to carry out the commandments, God says. (43:13) No, she doesn't mean loud. (43:15) They are loud, you know. (43:17) Just audible. Speaker 5 (43:18) She means audible. Speaker 1 (43:21) Okay, where are we now? (43:32) Let's finish Surah 66. (43:52) Did you read this before? Speaker 2 (45:15) There's no better guarantee or warranty than in the Bible. (45:28) We've talked about the verses in Luke. (47:53) It's fasting, Laurie. (47:54) It's fasting. Speaker 1 (47:56) What do you mean after fasting? Speaker 2 (47:58) I don't know. Speaker 1 (48:48) Let me just comment. (48:50) It's very important to notice in verse 8 that it says, O you who believe, repent to God a sincere repentance. (49:01) This is directed to the believers, because the believers make mistakes. (49:07) I mean, the disbelievers, that's a hopeless case. (49:10) But it is the believers who repent. (49:14) And strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites. (49:17) It's for their own good, like Laurie said. (49:20) In another Surah, God says, in fact, it's Surah 4, it happens to be. (49:25) God says, here you are defending them in this life. (49:27) Who's going to be their advocate in the hereafter? (49:31) So it's just for their own good that if somebody's going to fall in a ditch, that you hold them by the clothes and shake them up. (49:39) Be stern, otherwise they'll fall in the ditch. Speaker 2 (51:03) Sorry about that. Speaker 1 (52:31) You're pregnant, kid. (53:01) Good job, as usual. (53:02) God bless you. (53:03) Congratulations. (53:05) We have to... (53:08) We're not done yet. (53:14) We're going to recite al-Fatiha twice today. (53:17) First, Farhad Mu'ayyini's birthday will be Thursday, so we're going to celebrate today and next Friday, insha'Allah, because it's closer to his birthday. (53:26) But we're going to grab this chance to recite al-Fatiha so God will give him and his wonderful family a great year coming up, and every year to be greater than the previous year, insha'Allah. (53:37) God never turns us down. (53:39) Al-Fatiha. (53:40) Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim. (53:43) Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alameen. (53:58) We read al-Fatiha for Su'ad and Ahmed Rayan, and both of them. (54:03) We read al-Fatiha now for Frank, who's going to take the state exam.
