Messenger Audio 29 (31-Dec-1982)
You can't marry a Muslim who doesn't worship God alone. You are allowed to marry Christians and Jews as they are. God loves those who constantly repent. Definition of a hypocrite.
(0:00) ...more than what we think. (0:03) I, uh, because this is a very, very bad case, I think, among the old Arabs, (0:08) that they get the money of orphans for their own use, (0:13) to the extent that no money is left for these orphans when they grow up, (0:17) and they do not even have inheritance rights, because they are not adopters, (0:22) they are just leaving the house. (0:26) Okay, the next verse is very important, and we're going to close after we read this verse, (0:31) and I'd like to make a correction. (0:34) It says, in fact, do not marry pagans. (0:36) I will make it idol worshipers. Do not marry idol worshipers. (0:40) And if you look at the footnote, it says, (0:43) pick up pagans and include those who are not Jewish, Christian, or Muslim. (0:48) Jews, Christians, and Muslims share the common belief in God, (0:51) in the hereafter, the angels, Satan, Heaven, and Hell, (0:55) and all suffer from various distortions. (1:00) So, pagans I would place as idol worshipers, (1:05) and Muslims, in the footnote, in ..., Muslims worship God alone. (1:09) Does this make any sense to you, idol worshipers? (1:12) Well, not necessarily. (1:17) But this one verse says, you shall not marry pagans. (1:24) Really, I agonized over this, because the Christians are idol worshipers, (1:28) the Christians who call Jesus God are idol worshipers, (1:32) but we can marry Christians. (1:35) This is a very tricky verse. Let us read it first, okay? (1:39) 2.1 says, you shall not marry pagan women unless they believe. (1:43) A believing woman is better than the pagan. (1:46) Even if you like her. (1:48) Nor shall you permit your women to marry pagans unless they believe. (1:52) A believing man is better than the pagan, (1:55) even if you like him. (1:57) They invite to Hell, while God invites to Heaven and forgiveness (2:01) in accordance with His will. (2:03) He clarifies the revelations for those who take heed. (2:06) So, in Surah 5, we are permitted to marry Jews and Christians. (2:15) But you cannot marry a Muslim who does not believe God (2:19) and states that the Quran is sufficient, (2:24) that the Quran is complete and perfect. (2:30) Because when we receive the Quran, where every page says, (2:34) we do not worship idols, (2:40) and the Quran is complete and perfect, etc., etc., (2:43) then our responsibility is multiplied. (2:49) I mentioned before the example of God's chosen people (2:54) and how they have been suffering, (2:55) and Hitler has killed six million of them, etc., etc. (2:59) It's because the responsibility doubles when God chooses you (3:02) and gives you His message. (3:04) Your responsibility is doubled. (3:06) So, when God gives you a message that says, (3:08) this message is complete and perfect, (3:11) and you say, no, it is not complete, (3:14) then you have deserved the punishment manifold. (3:22) And this is why we are allowed to marry Christians or Jews, (3:27) but not a Muslim who does not believe in the Quran is complete and perfect. (3:38) And you have to believe that when you break this law, you will suffer a lot. (3:51) When you break this law and marry an idol worshipper, (3:58) you will suffer a lot of pain. (4:00) It's not worth it. (4:02) You follow this law, you marry a believer, (4:06) even if you don't like him or her. (4:11) So, if you are about to get married, (4:13) then you ask your fiancé to believe. (4:19) And this will serve two purposes. (4:21) First, it will be a proof of genuine love. (4:27) He or she changes for you. (4:31) Second, you are guaranteed a happy marriage. (4:37) So, you make it a condition before marriage. (4:44) And if the candidate is a Muslim who does not believe that the Quran is complete and perfect, (4:48) you make it a condition of marriage. (4:51) And you will be far better off if you say, (4:53) no, I'm not going to marry you, (4:55) than continue to believe that the Quran is not complete. (5:00) Now, if you are lax in this commandment, (5:03) you will suffer a lot of pain. (5:07) And the curse of idol worshippers will carry on to the several generations. (5:10) You are saying that a Muslim is not supposed to marry a person who believes in Hadith, right? (5:18) Right. (5:18) Okay. (5:20) But you are saying that a Muslim can marry a Christian or a Jew. (5:24) But those Christians cannot be idol worshippers, right? (5:29) That Christian should not be Jesus' worshipper. (5:33) I didn't say that. (5:34) I said, even as they are, because they were not subjected, (5:37) they did not receive the Quran, they did not look at it, (5:40) and there is a possibility that they will become believers. (5:46) But the Muslim already looked at the Quran, (5:49) and saw with his or her own eyes that the Quran says, (5:52) this book is complete and fully detailed. (5:54) And they made a decision to reject that, and not to believe God. (5:58) And that person already made a stand. (6:00) And God made a stand against that person, (6:03) that you should not marry him or her. (6:05) But the Christian, the Christian didn't go through that test. (6:09) The Christian who believes that Jesus is God, (6:11) the Son of God, and everything, (6:15) may eventually, and it will be easier for that person to come to the Quran alone, (6:21) than it is for a person who already looked at the Quran and decided that it is not complete, (6:25) or decided not to believe. (6:28) It is very difficult to change. (6:30) May I just say something? (6:32) Although the problem may not be that he is worried about this, (6:35) because it is a real problem, (6:37) but in actual life, I am sure there are hundreds of thousands of pretty Egyptian girls, (6:45) who don't even know one way or the other. (6:48) So they are available, don't worry. (6:52) OK? (6:53) Because don't imagine that all of the Muslim women already are worshippers of Hadith. (6:58) Some of them don't even know the Quran, nor the Hadith. (7:01) Right. These are just open. (7:04) Yeah, they are the right ones for you, the girls, and everything. (7:10) So, exactly like the Christians and the Jews (7:17) By the way, when I say Egyptian women, this includes the Turkish women. (7:21) Maybe more Turkish women. (7:23) We are going to close. (7:26) Is there any question before we close? (7:29) We are going to have the President Shahnawaz, 6 o'clock in the morning. (7:41) I don't know. (7:45) Idol worshippers. (7:47) -marrying idol worshippers not pagans. (7:52) But there is an exception in Surah 5. (7:54) Let's look at it in Surah 5. (7:56) Surah 5. (8:05) Verse 4. (8:13) Verse 5. (8:14) Surah 5, Verse 5. (8:16) Verse 7 to 1. (8:19) It says, Today all good things are permitted for you, (8:22) and the food of those who were given previous scriptures is permitted for you, (8:25) and your food is permitted for them also, (8:28) who are permitted to marry the chaste Muslim women, (8:31) as well as the chaste women who are Jewish or Christian, (8:35) provided you marry them to a good man, (8:37) and maintain chastity, not committing adultery, (8:40) nor taking secret lovers, (8:42) anyone who rejects faith, has nullified his works, (8:45) and will be a loser in the Hereafter. (8:47) So, Jewish and Christian must see. (8:50) Chaste means wife, I don't know. (8:53) Chaste means, they don't have a husband. (8:55) They don't commit illicit sexual activities. (9:00) Be real blood. (9:02) Be real blood. (9:05) They are virgin in the mirror. (9:09) Virgin. (9:09) Christian and Jewish, at the time of Quran, (9:12) were exactly identical to the Christian and Jewish, (9:14) they are today. (9:17) So there is an exception to that. (9:19) Even the Christian may be an idol worshipper. (9:21) You can see the difficulty of translating that verse. (9:24) Even in verse 17, also, the next page, (9:28) the definition of pagans are those who say that Christ, (9:32) the Son of Mary, is God. (9:35) Now, I would imagine that the majority of Christians, (9:40) who say this, (9:42) I mean, if they take a stand, but if they don't know what's what, (9:44) it's something else. (9:45) Although, there are many Christians, (9:47) pagans and Italians, (9:50) who say that Christ is only a prophet there. (9:55) However, other Christians don't want them to be called Christians, (9:58) because then that is intramural problems between them. (10:03) Okay, we're going to close, and we'll see you all at 6 o'clock in the morning. (10:06) Thank you. (10:10) Fatiha. (10:17) Fatiha.
(11:24) We're going to start at 2:222. (11:27) Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim. (11:30) In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful. (11:34) The subtitle here is menstruation. (11:36) They ask you about menstruation. (11:39) say it is harmful. (11:42) You should avoid intercourse with women during menstruation, (11:45) until they are clean. (11:47) Once they are clean, you may have intercourse with them (11:50) in the manner designated by God. (11:54) God loves the repenters, (11:56) and He loves those who are clean. (12:01) I think this is the only verse in the Quran that deals with menstruation, (12:06) and it is straightforward. (12:19) A significant word here that could not be translated to English (12:23) is the word, God loves the repenters. (12:28) There are two words in Arabic that designate those who repent, (12:34) and those who continuously repent. (12:36) The word used here is the one that means continuously repent. (12:42) God loves those who continuously repent. (12:47) Those who repent are called Ta'ibim in Arabic. (12:50) But the word used here was Tawwabim, (12:52) which means they always repent. (13:00) And as we have been learning in the last few khutbahs, (13:04) is that you cannot go to heaven with one sin. (13:08) You have to be sinless to qualify. (13:12) Because Adam and Eve committed one sin, (13:14) but they were kicked out. (13:17) And one way of erasing sin is repentance. (13:21) You have to repent continuously. (13:23) You have to make it a habit, (13:24) to the extent that when you toss around in your bed, (13:28) and you are half asleep, (13:29) you must train yourself to repent. (13:33) When you are half conscious, (13:37) just as you repent, (13:38) you turn in your bed and say, (13:40) please God, forgive me, I repent to you. (13:43) I pledge, I never commit a sin again. (13:47) You mean it. That's what repentance is (13:48) You are sorry for anything wrong you might have done. (13:54) And at the same time, (13:56) you pledge that you will never do it again. (14:00) So God loves the repenters. (14:04) I can't think of any English word. (14:07) I guess we can use a multiple word (14:09) to say that God loves those who continuously repent. (14:14) This is one of the... (14:16) The efficiency of the Arabic language is apparent here. (14:21) And he loves those who are clean. (14:55) No, it's a different, (14:58) it's like if I swear to God (14:59) I will meet you at the airport. (15:04) Then you don't do it. (15:05) You have to expiate it. (15:06) You have to fast three days or three, then forgive. (15:09) But when you pledge not to break that law again, (15:13) that's different. (15:18) There's nobody else involved except you. (15:22) So it's between you and God. (15:23) But when you pledge, (15:25) you're going to meet somebody at the airport, (15:27) and there's somebody depending on you. (15:30) So, you don't have to... (15:35) Involve somebody else. (15:38) Like I... (15:40) Like I pledged to donate (15:42) a hundred dollars to the poor (15:45) if I pass this test. (15:48) Now, the poor, even though they are unknown, (15:51) they're still involved, (15:52) they can't break the law. (15:56) But the pledge not to sin is something (15:58) that only you is involved in. (16:10) But unless you make it an oath, (16:12) like I did. (16:16) It was a swearing, I swear by God, or something. (16:22) There are two kinds of expiation. (16:25) There's the promise, the broken promise, (16:27) where somebody else is involved, (16:28) but there's an oath. (16:33) It involves swearing. (16:36) Yeah? (16:37) I was thinking that... (16:38) Because I know when I make the intentions (16:41) to Allah, it's like... (16:44) I was thinking that it was more like (16:46) the intentions behind it. (16:48) Yeah. (16:49) You know, like, when you say that I... (16:51) You know, I promise never to sin (16:56) or fall into transgression or whatever, (16:58) then your intention is my intention. (17:00) Right. (17:01) Oh, you mean it. (17:03) That's right. (17:08) That's right. (17:11) You mean it. (17:17) Yeah, that's what I'm saying. (17:18) It's not the type of oath that you break (17:22) and require a expiation. (17:33) Yeah. (17:34) Break an oath. (17:40) Yeah. (17:43) It's really, the whole thing is common sense. (17:48) Everything. (17:49) Yeah. (17:50) When you pledge you will not sin again. (17:56) No, when you fall in sin, (18:01) that was not the intention. (18:11) You're supposed to be reminding yourself all the time. (18:19) Never again, God, will I sin against you. (18:23) If you have a certain weakness, (18:25) you have a habit of gossiping against other people, (18:28) for example. (18:30) I'm sorry, God, I will never gossip again. (18:33) So I keep saying this until you really come to that perfection, (18:37) as far as gossiping is concerned. (18:40) If you have a bad habit of lying, (18:41) you say, never again will I lie. (18:45) Not a single lie again. (18:47) Please, God, forgive me, I repent. (18:49) I will never lie again. (18:50) Never tell a lie. (18:51) Under any circumstance, even if I die for it. (18:54) You know, these kinds of things. (18:56) So, and you keep reminding yourself until you reach perfection. (19:00) Because you'll get rid of a bad habit, (19:02) and you'll get into another bad habit at some point. (19:05) And you're cleansing yourself one by one. (19:09) So, this word is very important in this verse. (19:12) If God loves you, tell what He loves you. (19:14) Continuously repent. (19:16) And the impression from the verse is, (19:19) I describe it in that way, (19:21) that to the extent that when you are half-conscious, (19:26) tossing in bed, asleep, (19:28) as soon as you're half-conscious, you say, (19:30) I repent. (19:31) Forgive me, God, for my sins. (19:32) I repent. (19:33) I'll never do it again. (19:35) Just make it a habit. (19:38) God loves repentance. (19:40) Because it implies also recognition of God, zikr, (19:46) commemoration of God. (19:51) And if you can find an excuse to mention God (19:54) that every chance you get, (19:56) then you're in good shape. (20:06) If we think to ourselves, (20:07) well, I'm just going to sin again, (20:11) let's sin against each other, (20:12) but if we think to ourselves, (20:14) I'll never do it again, (20:15) and we really need it to come back, (20:16) we don't worry about what's going to happen tomorrow. (20:19) If we're conscious of the time that we're living in, (20:23) the moment that we're living in, (20:25) it's time to say, (20:25) God, forgive me. (20:27) Protect yourself from everything before you. (20:29) And I think a lot of people self-protect themselves (20:31) by thinking, (20:32) well, I'll never do it again. (20:33) I'll never do it again. (20:40) Well, it's the bombardment from Christianity (20:45) that tells us a human being is a sinner, (20:48) the original sin, the inherited sin, (20:50) and all this garbage. (20:51) It makes us feel that we're sinners, (20:53) that we're doomed sinners, hopelessly sinners. (20:56) But it's not true. (20:58) You don't have to be a sinner. (21:04) You don't have to be a sinner. (21:08) You must be ready to meet God anytime. (21:10) If you die now and you go to heaven, (21:12) then you have to think about death too. (21:16) We have to think about death. (21:20) We're all dry, (21:21) and we can go dry and never make it. (21:23) So, you must be ready. (21:26) You have to be ready all the time. (21:28) And you better mind that you cannot go to heaven (21:30) with one sin, (21:31) not a single sin. (21:34) Then, actually, as a believer in God alone, (21:37) you have to be determined not to have anything in your record, (21:40) none. (21:42) And the way to erase sin is repentance. (21:49) The sins that you cannot repent (21:51) are the ones that you know something is wrong, (21:53) and you do it, (21:54) knowing it is wrong. (21:56) You can't repent from that. (21:57) You have to pay for it. (22:00) You have to pay for it here, (22:04) that's the only alternative, actually. (22:07) Because paying for it over there means eternal hell, (22:10) means misery. (22:11) There's no such thing as paying over there. (22:15) You have to pay for it here. (22:19) So, to be, (22:20) to be even steeper, I suppose, (22:23) sins are erased. (22:26) Now, this is where the positive actions come into picture. (22:33) The five prayers of the day. (22:36) You have to erase sins. (22:38) Fasting of Ramadan, (22:39) these are positive things (22:41) that erase the negatives. (22:44) Erase sins. (22:45) Because there are, (22:49) almost certainly, (22:50) sins that we're not aware of. (22:55) You passed by your brother or sister (22:57) and you didn't greet him or her properly. (23:02) Or there was something on your mind, (23:06) your brother or sister thought you made a face. (23:16) I read somewhere that (23:17) the great sins you committed before you seriously became (23:21) a believer in one God, (23:23) that these are, (23:24) you weren't aware that it was so bad when you did it. (23:28) You hadn't read the Koran, (23:29) or even if you read it, (23:30) then you had missed that particular verse. (23:32) That these are forgiven more easily. (23:35) Not only forgiven, (23:36) they are converted into credits. (23:40) The Koran teaches that (23:41) when you come to God, (23:46) you come to God with your great repentance, (23:50) and apologize for all the past sins, (23:53) and show remorse, (23:56) and determination never to do it again, (23:58) you actually become credits. (24:02) I remember one time I was flying (24:05) to Egypt, (24:07) and there was a gentleman next to me, (24:12) I think he was a major in the army or something, (24:15) in the Egyptian army, (24:17) and he was collecting all the bottles of liquor, (24:21) the people around him, (24:22) and drinking them out. (24:24) So I couldn't help telling him, (24:26) you're accumulating a good number of sins. (24:30) And he said, (24:32) are you familiar with the verse in the Koran that says (24:33) when you repent, (24:35) God converts sins to credits? (24:37) I said, yeah. (24:38) He said, well, (24:38) repent unto me of as many sins as possible, (24:40) so I can convert them to credits. (24:43) That was the best excuse I've ever heard. (24:53) I think that was the only verse (24:55) they ever remembered from the Koran. (24:57) But it is true, (25:01) that if you spend the life of idol worship, (25:03) and sin, and so forth, (25:04) and then you declare a great repentance, (25:09) you come to God, (25:11) then all your sins are converted into credits. (25:21) I have a feeling that this conversion to credits (25:25) is accompanied by a polishing process (25:28) that is quite severe. (25:32) But when you look at what is doing, (25:36) the cleansing process, (25:40) the conversion of sin to credits, (25:42) it is actually a blessing, (25:45) a great blessing, (25:46) a blessing in this life. (25:48) Because everything passes, (25:50) all hardships pass. (25:53) But the sin is in your record. (25:56) On the Day of Judgment, (25:58) it means just unequal misery. (26:05) God says, (26:05) to those who barely miss hell, (26:08) and enter heaven, (26:09) and triumph, (26:11) and sustain the great triumph. (26:16) So we must be among the repenters, (26:19) those who continuously repent. (26:23) 223 (26:25) Your women are assets for you, (26:28) and you may enjoy your assets however you like, (26:31) so long as you maintain righteousness. (26:35) You shall observe God, (26:37) and know that you will ultimately meet Him, (26:40) and give good news to the believers. (26:51) These are clear. (27:00) These are the first X-rated verses (27:03) that we came across since the beginning of the Quran. (27:07) The key sentences here are (27:11) in verse 222, (27:13) in the manner designated by God. (27:16) That's a key expression. (27:19) And 223, (27:21) so long as you maintain righteousness. (27:30) So there are limits beyond which (27:32) there will be abuse, (27:34) or misuse. (27:41) Next subtitle. (27:56) 223 (27:57) They add to your life. (27:58) They add to your life. (28:09) Now, how does that relate, you know, (28:11) in comparison to, (28:15) like this feels, (28:16) it seems like this feels more so with men, (28:19) rather than with women. (28:22) Well they, uh, (28:24) I mean, it doesn't say, (28:25) it doesn't tell us (28:26) women, for men are assets, (28:28) or this. (28:30) No, we just read that (28:32) you are their confidence, (28:34) they are your confidence. (28:37) What was that verse? (28:39) That's 223. (28:47) No, there was a verse mentioning confidence. (28:56) 187? (29:02) Yeah, 187, (29:03) Permission granted to you is (29:04) to have intercourse with your spouses (29:07) during the nights of fasting, (29:08) they are your confident, (29:10) and you are their confidents. (29:13) So it's a, (29:14) it's a two-way, (29:15) it's a two-way street. (29:18) Not the one way. (29:24) It is a fact of life (29:25) that men are the ones who are usually demanding it. (29:33) I'm glad to hear Glenda's voice, (29:35) my goodness, she was so quiet this afternoon. (29:46) Okay, do you want to, (29:47) do you want to take the rest? (29:50) 224? (29:51) 224 and on. (29:55) He shall not (29:55) be the forgiver (30:13) and the clement. (30:17) If he wasn't here, (30:18) then he wouldn't know what you, (30:20) what your pledges were in the first place. (30:23) And if he wasn't omniscient, (30:24) then he wouldn't have the power to forgive them. (30:27) And (30:28) every line is forgiving and (30:31) clement, meaning (30:32) when a governor gives clements, (30:35) it means he gives a pardon. (30:37) A man is (30:38) in death row, ready to die (30:39) for his mortal sins, (30:41) and he's, (30:42) the governor calls a plea of clements, (30:46) he's made, and the governor, (30:47) suddenly he has, (30:48) he receives clements, (30:49) that means he's pardoned. (30:50) So God is the ultimate one who is (30:51) clement. (30:54) Much worse than the electric chair (30:55) that requires a pardon. (30:58) So it's, (31:00) people talk a lot, (31:01) and you know, (31:02) you hear people swear a lot, (31:04) but it's not a good practice (31:06) to say God this, (31:07) and God that, (31:08) and God damn this, (31:11) to use the name of God as name, (31:13) or to use the word of, (31:15) the powerful words of (31:17) scripture and of God as (31:19) part of idle conversation. (31:21) It's not recommended here. (31:24) That's one of the ten commandments (31:27) It's one of, (31:28) it's another way of seeing it. (31:30) A lot of people, (31:31) they talk about God, (31:32) and they appear to be righteous (31:34) in their speech, (31:36) but really it's not what you say (31:37) that's important. (31:39) You're held responsible for (31:40) what you intend to do, (31:43) or what your motivation is. (31:45) Here we have in the Koran, (31:47) what we know from psychology, (31:49) the underlying structure of (31:50) human behavior is motivation. (31:54) It's what you intend to do, (31:55) or what you're motivated to do, (31:57) that makes the difference. (31:59) So this is something you can read (32:01) in modern psychology, (32:02) which is right here in the Koran. (32:03) The person's motives, (32:05) or their intention, (32:06) is the true way of deciding (32:08) what they're all about, (32:09) and not just what they say. (32:12) And sometimes the motives (32:13) are very deep-lying. (32:16) Motivation is the key (32:17) to understanding human nature, (32:19) and the human mind. (32:21) People can draw a line (32:22) between this and that, (32:24) and say something is (32:25) one thing and another. (32:27) First of all, (32:27) they must have a motive. (32:30) There's a very famous book (32:31) on mathematics called (32:32) The Law of Reform, (32:34) which almost enforces (32:35) the mystical conception (32:36) of the world. (32:37) The first sentence (32:38) is intense. (32:40) The motive is prior to distinction. (32:42) Before we draw a boundary (32:44) between A and B, (32:45) we have to have a motive. (32:47) Right here in the Koran. (32:54) The reader was asking (32:55) about the explanation (32:57) of the verse. (32:59) Not to sin. (33:02) If you see the verse, (33:03) it's important (33:03) that it involves (33:04) the responsibility (33:05) of actual intentions. (33:06) The intention is not (33:07) to commit a sin, (33:10) but it's not really (33:12) a specific one. (33:13) However, (33:14) to illustrate that thing, (33:16) that tells, (33:18) to help us see (33:19) the common sense of it, (33:20) for example, (33:21) Ahmad said, (33:22) I pledged, (33:24) I swore to God (33:24) I will not smoke. (33:27) And then he came to me (33:28) one day in the office, (33:29) and he had withdrawal, (33:31) nicotine withdrawal symptoms, (33:33) and he said, (33:35) what am I supposed to do (33:36) to break my oath? (33:42) And he said, (33:45) I said, (33:46) you have to fast three days, (33:48) or feed ten poor people. (33:49) He said, (33:50) can I smoke now? (33:55) He said, (33:56) in other words, (33:58) he decided to either (33:59) fast three days, (34:00) or repeat, (34:01) to feed (34:02) ten poor people. (34:04) But, (34:04) in the case of saying, (34:07) I pledged, (34:08) I will never sin again, (34:11) then the person cannot say, (34:12) okay, (34:13) I want to commit adultery. (34:14) You know what I'm supposed to do? (34:15) Fast three days, (34:16) to feed ten poor people, (34:17) and then you want to commit adultery? (34:18) This would be a premeditated sin, (34:21) you know, (34:21) and you can see the nonsense, (34:24) or it doesn't make sense. (34:27) He, (34:28) he decided to feed ten poor people, (34:31) and he went on smoking. (34:34) But that's not a sin. (34:37) The sin that he expiated (34:38) for breaking the oath. (34:43) When you pledge not to commit a sin, (34:44) you can't say, (34:45) I'm going to feed ten poor people, (34:46) and then don't commit a sin. (34:49) Yeah. (34:50) So, if you mean to do something, (34:52) I actually mean to do it, (34:53) like, (34:53) I don't expand it, (34:54) but, (34:54) you know, (35:07) Anything is forgivable, (35:08) but, (35:09) idol worship. (35:10) I know, (35:10) but, (35:11) it's not so bad, (35:12) if you have three more days, (35:13) like adultery, (35:14) you can't do it. (35:15) We know that you can't say, (35:17) okay, (35:17) I will commit adultery. (35:18) No, (35:18) you can't repent from (35:20) premeditated sin. (35:21) You have to pay for it. (35:23) You have to pay for it. (35:24) Yeah, (35:24) but anything is forgivable, (35:26) except idol worship. (35:31) You have to, (35:32) we have to make distinction (35:33) between (35:34) forgivability (35:35) and (35:36) repentance (35:36) and thankful. (35:38) Repentance, (35:40) forgivability, (35:40) anything is forgivable, (35:43) except idol worship. (35:49) You remember one problem, (35:50) he said, (35:50) he said, (35:53) some people, (35:54) when we tell them that (35:55) you don't follow Hadith and Sunnah, (35:56) because (35:56) they are uncertain, (35:57) they accuse you of disrespecting (35:59) the Prophet. (35:59) So, (36:00) the other choice is (36:01) idol worship. (36:03) They tell them, (36:04) what choice would you take? (36:05) Idol worship or (36:06) disrespecting the Prophet? (36:08) Quran states, (36:10) anything is forgivable, (36:11) but not idol worship. (36:13) So, (36:13) you want to choose something (36:14) that is forgivable. (36:16) But they, (36:16) these are the only choices. (36:18) I would easily take (36:20) disrespecting the Prophet. (36:21) That's the other, (36:22) the only choice, (36:23) which is what (36:24) we respect the Prophet. (36:26) God chose him to have (36:27) an uttered, (36:28) the last scripture (36:29) out of his mouth. (36:31) And the people (36:32) who really love Jesus (36:33) are the ones (36:33) who know him (36:34) as he really is. (36:35) The people (36:36) who love Muhammad (36:36) are the ones (36:37) who follow him (36:37) as they really want (36:38) to be followed. (36:46) Anything is forgivable, (36:47) but idol worship. (36:49) Now, (36:49) if you talk about (36:50) a person who dies (36:51) as a hypocrite (36:52) and says he's a believer (36:52) but he's not a believer, (36:54) that's unforgivable (36:55) then he's not (36:56) a believer himself. (36:59) Doesn't the Quran (36:59) tell you about (37:00) a hypocrite? (37:02) Doesn't it say (37:02) that at one time (37:03) they were believers (37:04) and then Allah (37:05) made them Christians (37:06) and became hypocrites? (37:08) but they can depend (37:09) on this (37:09) and they become believers. (37:11) They can become believers. (37:13) A person can be (37:14) an idol worshiper (37:16) and become (37:17) a believer. (37:18) Prophet Muhammad (37:19) himself (37:19) was an idol worshiper (37:20) and he became (37:21) a believer (37:22) when he died. (37:24) So, (37:24) I'm like in (37:25) a sort of (37:26) a metaphor (37:27) that says (37:28) that a hypocrite (37:29) can't be believed (37:30) or forgiven. (37:32) If they die (37:33) and die in a state (37:34) of hypocrisy (37:35) or die in a state (37:36) of disbelief (37:36) or a state of idol worship (37:38) and all that, (37:40) they cannot be forgiven. (37:43) I mean, (37:45) first of all, (37:46) the hypocrites (37:47) and the disbelievers (37:49) give up (37:49) their right (37:50) to be forgiven anyway (37:52) because they don't (37:53) recognize God. (37:56) Well, he says here (37:57) when they are told (37:58) come let us (37:59) come let the message (38:00) of Allah (38:01) ask forgiveness for you (38:02) they turn their heads (38:03) the way they talk (38:04) by their arrogance. (38:06) Whether you ask (38:07) forgiveness for them (38:08) or do not ask (38:09) forgiveness for them (38:10) Allah will not (38:11) forgive them. (38:13) Allah does not (38:14) guide the wicked people. (38:16) We're talking about (38:17) believers, (38:18) because the majority (38:20) of believers (38:20) are born in idol worship (38:23) and almost (38:24) 100% of the believers (38:25) go through a stage (38:26) of idol worship (38:27) and then they get rid of it. (38:29) So, first, (38:31) the disbelievers (38:31) they are, I mean, (38:32) they are out, naturally. (38:33) And the hypocrites (38:34) are actually disbelievers (38:35) except they are worse (38:37) because (38:38) among the believers (38:40) they don't believe. (38:43) It's a worse situation. (38:48) If a disbeliever, (38:49) you know, (38:49) he's a disbeliever (38:50) and you know, (38:51) you talk to him (38:53) and they'll do this. (38:54) But when a person (38:55) comes to you with a Quran (38:56) under his armpit (38:57) and says, (38:57) you don't believe (38:58) that this is complete (39:01) and he's righteous (39:02) and then he gets up (39:03) to pray the noon (39:04) with you (39:05) and then he says, (39:06) this is not complete. (39:08) God says, (39:09) this is complete (39:09) and he says, (39:10) this is not complete. (39:10) That's a hypocrite. (39:12) And he's worse (39:13) because he appears (39:13) to be righteous (39:16) and you think (39:17) he's a great Muslim (39:19) and you listen (39:21) usually they're very (39:22) eloquent. (39:24) That's the worst, (39:25) that's the worst kind. (39:28) The Quran says (39:29) that you'll be in (39:30) the lowest pit of hell (39:32) because of that. (39:33) If a person says, (39:34) I'm a disbeliever (39:36) you will listen (39:37) to him or her (39:39) knowing that (39:40) this person is a disbeliever. (39:43) If a person comes to you (39:44) as a great believer (39:46) and then takes you (39:47) away from the path (39:49) that's a lot worse. (39:52) I think, (39:52) weren't they at one time, (39:53) I mean, (39:54) hypocrites are people (39:54) who believe at one time (39:56) and then they (39:57) and then they- (39:58) well not necessarily. (40:00) could be (40:00)other way around. (40:02) In fact, (40:02) many of them (40:03) became believers. (40:05) There's a lot. (40:08) A person, (40:09) you know, (40:10) would like to be (40:11) a Muslim (40:11) like a Christian (40:15) let's say that (40:17) Quran says, (40:18) don't drink alcohol (40:19) but people (40:19) are intentionally (40:20) intentionally (40:21) going out (40:22) and drink alcohol (40:24) because (40:24) he's a hypocrite too, (40:25) right? (40:27) He's a sinner. (40:29) He's a hypocrite (40:30) right? (40:31) Because he's not (40:32) following the guidance (40:33) of God. (40:35) Yeah, (40:35) he's a sinner. (40:37) But if he sits somewhere (40:39) and says, (40:39) I don't drink (40:41) then that's a (40:42) hypocrisy. (40:42) That's a liar. (40:43) Yeah. (40:44) I have something (40:45) about Muhammad (40:46) that's a little bit off. (40:47) He tells you here, (40:48) for example, (40:49) for example when this occurs (40:50) he said, (40:50) I'm a Muslim (40:51) I pray, (40:52) but I drink. (40:53) He's not a hypocrite. (40:54) He's a sinner. (40:55) He's committing a sin. (40:58) A lot of us (40:59) do that. (41:02) This is (41:02) just because (41:03) we have two people (41:05) here from Seattle (41:06) who are going to go back (41:06) and hear this. (41:07) I just heard this recently (41:08) about (41:10) Muhammad, (41:11) we should (41:11) it's a justification (41:12) for Sunni and Ahmadis (41:13) OK? (41:14) And I've heard you (41:15) explain it before (41:16) but they're going to (41:17) have the same thing (41:17) thrown at them (41:19) It's the idea that (41:21) Muhammad was (41:22) a good model. (41:23) He got the Quran (41:25) and you know (41:26) he follows it (41:27) and let's look (41:28) at his life (41:29) and let's model (41:30) our life (41:30) after his life. (41:31) This is a justification (41:32) for Sunna, OK? (41:33) And the thing that (41:34) he did, OK, (41:35) because (41:36) he's the prophet (41:37) so he's a good model (41:38) so let's follow (41:38) the model. (41:39) That's what they say. (41:41) The Quran says (41:42) don't follow his model. (41:43) The Quran says (41:45) he gave attention (41:46) to the rich man (41:46) and neglected (41:47) the poor man (41:48) because he's poor (41:49) and gave his attention (41:50) to the rich man (41:51) because he's rich. (41:53) The Quran says (41:53) don't do that. (41:55) The Quran says (41:55) the prophet feared (41:56) the people (41:56) instead of (41:57) fearing God (41:57) and the Quran says (41:58) don't do that. (42:00) Therefore, (42:01) this claim is (42:01) invalid (42:02) in the... (42:05) The Quran says (42:06) do not follow (42:07) his example (42:08) in the Quran. (42:09) Avoid having (42:09) one of the most (42:10) common things (42:11) they say to you. (42:11) Oh yeah, (42:12) you know that (42:13) they were... (42:15) Yes. (42:16) They say that (42:18) they're only (42:18) supposed to (42:19) do (42:19) what I don't (42:21) want to do (42:22) and I want (42:24) to ask you (42:25) if (42:25) I should (42:29) say (42:30) something (42:30) I don't (42:30) want to do (42:32) so I don't (42:33) want to (42:33) do it. (42:43) But (42:44) if you look (42:45) at the verse (42:45) carefully (42:46) it would (42:46) mean that (42:47) this person (42:47) is a (42:48) disbeliever (42:48) In surah (42:49) four (42:50) verses (42:51) I'm not sure (42:51) what the (42:51) verse is. (43:19) I know (43:20) that's a (43:20) very good (43:21) question. (43:26) 92 says (43:28) the (43:28) grossness (43:28) of nothing. (43:30) There's (43:30) no believer (43:31) kills another (43:32) believer (43:32) except by (43:34) mistake. (43:35) Whoever (43:36) kills a (43:36) believer (43:37) by mistake (43:37) shall (43:38) expiate (43:38) by freeing. (43:40) He (43:41) means 93. (43:42) 93 says (43:43) as for (43:43) the one who (43:44) kills a (43:44) believer (43:45) deliberately. (43:47) His (43:47) retribution (43:48) is hell (43:49) wherein (43:50) he (43:50) abides (43:50) forever (43:51) and God (43:51) is angry (43:52) with him (43:52) and curses him and (43:54) has to (43:54) pay for (43:55) him (43:55) a (43:55) certain (43:55) retribution. (44:01) He (44:02) could not (44:02) be a (44:02) believer (44:04) if he (44:05) kills a (44:05) believer (44:07) deliberately. (44:09) You (44:10) notice (44:11) in 92 (44:12) there's (44:13) no believer (44:13) kills another (44:14) believer (44:15) except by (44:16) mistake. (44:17) But in (44:17) 93 it (44:18) doesn't say (44:18) as for the (44:19) believer who (44:19) kills a (44:20) believer (44:21) on purpose. (44:23) It says (44:24) as for the (44:24) one who (44:25) kills a (44:25) believer (44:25) deliberately (44:27) because this (44:28) executes him (44:28) as a (44:29) believer. (44:30) And you (44:30) notice (44:32) how the (44:32) opposite goes (44:33) by saying (44:33) his retribution (44:34) is hell. (44:36) As if that (44:36) is not enough (44:37) to say (44:37) wherein he (44:38) abides (44:38) forever (44:39) and God (44:40) is angry (44:41) with him (44:41) which is (44:42) worse than (44:42) him, (44:43) curses him (44:44) which is (44:45) even worse, (44:46) and has (44:47) to return (44:47) to him (44:47) a terrible (44:48) retribution. (44:51) It's like (44:51) saying (44:52) slapping you in the face and (44:52) I'm going to carry you up and throw you on the ground (44:55) and step on you and (44:59) then whip you 100 lashes (45:10) I want you to notice the wording of the Quran (45:14) 92 says no believer kills another believer (45:16) except in ... as for the one who kills a believer (45:22) deliberately (45:23) like (45:24) if you (45:24) believe (45:24) in (45:24) God (45:25) you (45:26) will (45:26) It's (45:26) like (45:26) saying (45:27) if you (45:28) believe (45:28) in(45:30) a true believer realizes ... that killing one person is like killing the whole of humanity (45:37) but as far as the person who was killed, the angels ... (45:51) as far as belief is concerned, Allah tells us (45:59) And Allah of us might perceive ourselves to be believing, but when the situation of a test arises, we might turn back, you know what I'm saying? (46:12) And in that case, we would become munafiqun, that is, become hypocrites. (46:17) The only way that we can really know our faith is through a test. (46:25) And, like, you know, again, when I was reading the munafiqun, it says here, it says, (46:31) if they're dying of certain hypocrisy, then they end up in the lowest pit of hell. (46:38) We have people in this city who are sharing the Koran, and pretend to be very relentless, and they go around and try to keep the people away from the Koran. (46:48) But it's only through a test that we really know how righteous we are. (46:52) None of us really know where we're coming from. (46:55) Allah swt made us Muslim. (46:59) But what I wanted to say was that in surah 8, we have verses that say that the hypocrites can stop being hypocrites, and they can come and join the believers. (47:13) People can repent from idol worship, hypocrisy, disbelief. (47:19) It's the time of death that determines how the person will die, as a result of hypocrisy. (47:30) So we're talking about the time of death. (47:34) But people, in their life, can go through hypocrisy, disbelief.
